All About Buford is an acoustic pop vocal band from Boston, New York City and Philadelphia who switch seamlessly between a cappella and guitar-backed formats, delivering pure vocals, complex arrangements, and intricate harmonies. The rhythmic background of AAB is the studied vocal percussion (beatboxing) of Del Coy, who also provides the bass line, simultaneously. There are no drum tracks - but for the acoustic instruments (when used), everything you hear is vocal. Performing an eclectic mix of covers and originals, All About Buford has been described as both sexy AND sophisticated. They have performed steadily at venues large and small since their inception in 2000, and were the 2003 Boston Regional Harmony Sweepstakes champions (runner-up in 2002), also winning a "Best Original Song" award that year. All About Buford does a high-energy, surprising show that gets an audience involved.

Amy Malkoff -[lead and backing vocals & guitar]

Amy (www.amymalkoff.com/harmony) has an AB in music from Kenyon College with graduate studies at the New England Conservatory of Music. She is a singer, songwriter and guitar player. For 7 years, she was 1/2 of the duo Raymond Gonzalez & Amy Malkoff, and during that time they put out some full length recordings and were included on "When October Goes" (Rounder Records), and were included in one of the early Hear Music (now part of Starbucks) catalogs. In 1994, she founded the band Deadline Poet, which started out as an all-woman a cappella group, then a full band, and lastly a guitar/keyboard/vocal trio (the group disbanded in October of 2000). They are included on the Best of Boston Singer-Songwriters compilation CD, as well as their own recordings. She has traveled extensively with All About Buford, with the duo, and with the various incarnations of DP, and appeared as backup vocalist on numerous recordings. She has performed with the likes of Dar Williams, David Wilcox, Christine Lavin, Patty Larkin, Vance Gilbert, Jim Infantino (Jim's Big Ego), Ellis Paul, The House Jacks, Sean Altman, and Jonatha Brooke. Amy serves on the Board of Directors of the Contemporary A Cappella Society (CASA), and is their Director of Web Content. She is also a graphic designer, editor and writer.

Tracie Franklin -[lead and backing vocals]

Tracie is a graduate of California State University of Fullerton with a BFA in Musical Theatre. Directly out of college, Tracie set sail with Holland America Cruise Lines as a vocalist. She returned to California and garnered lead roles in "Ain't Misbehavin'" (Charlaine), "Sweet Charity" (Helene), "Into The Woods" (Little Red), and "Little Shop" (Chiffon), among others. She has performed with Debbie Allen, Tony Bennett, Ben Vereen, Joanna Gleason, and Alice Ripley.

Tracie was the narrator for the production "Disney LIVE! Winnie The Pooh" which premiered in Auckland, New Zealand. With this show, she traveled to over 30 countries and performed in 8 languages, including Thai, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Welsh, and Italian. During her time in Thailand, Tracie was honored to record a track with the popular Thai band "Vacation". She has appeared on TV and radio programs from Rome to Buenos Aires and, of course, New York 1. After three years of touring with the 100 Acre Wood, she finally made her move to New York. Soon after, she was cast in the '08/09 National Tour of "Hairspray: The Musical" as Cindy Watkins / Dynamite, and went back on the road.

Now settled back in NYC, she is extremely excited to be a member of All About Buford.

Jonathan Shade -[lead and backing vocals]

Jonathan grew up in scenic Bucks County, PA. He moved to Philadelphia in 2000 and completed a BFA in Musical Theater from The University of the Arts. He has been performing around the country since 2004. Selected favorite performances include "Bright Lights, Big City" and "HAIR" (Prince Music Theater, PA), "The Irish and How They Got That Way (Walnut St. Theatre, PA), "Almost Heaven: The Songs and Stories of John Denver" (Birmingham Summerfest, AL) and "Lucky Stiff" (Maples Rep. Theater, MO). Interesting fact: Jonathan is the only person (thus far) to play (AAB friend) "Brendan" in GrooveLily's theater production of "Striking 12". Says Valerie, bandmate and the real-life Brendan's wife: "Anyone who wants to be my husband professionally is okay with me!" In 2009, Jonathan spent 4 months in China with a theater company.

Marisa Debowsky

marisa Marisa studied music theory and mathematics (a good combination!) at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA, where she was introduced to college a cappella via MBC's Baldwin Charm. She went on to direct the University of Vermont Cat's Meow for three years while in graduate school, producing their 2004 recording and gaining national visibility by participating in their first ICCA competition. In 2004, Marisa co-founded and co-produced (with two others) the Vermont A Cappella Summit (where, in 2005, she first met All About Buford). In addition to organizing such large-scale events, she periodically moonlights as a booking agent for solo artists and vocal bands, a habit picked up while living in Vermont and working for singer/songwriter Gregory Douglass.

Since moving back to her home "town" of New York City in 2005, she has sung on the NYC vocal group scene with Loose Interpretations (which she co-founded) and Bridge & Tunnel. When not singing, writing songs and seeing lots of live music, Marisa is the Program Director for Canada/USA Mathcamp.

Robert Dietz -[vocal percussion]

dietz Robert is currently a senior at Ithaca College in upstate New York pursuing a dual major in music and business. He began singing in high school when he founded the CARA (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award) award winning male quintet, Ascending Height.

Since entering college Robert has had the pleasure of performing with and conducting Ithaca College’s only all male a cappella group, Ithacappella. Along with Ithacappella, Robert has had the honor of twice advancing to the finals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCAs), as well as sharing the stage with the internationally renowned rock band, Incubus. In addition to his CARA awards and nominations, Robert also holds three ICCA awards for outstanding vocal percussion, and his 100th arrangement received the award for outstanding arrangement at the ICCA semifinals at Rutgers in 2009.

Robert has been performing with All About Buford since the summer of 2007, and is excited to continue his work with the group!
